Performing songwriter, Mónica Gómez keeps her audiences laughing, crying, and attentive. An award-winning poet and songwriter, she weaves a spell of startling images, haunting music, and surprising humor.
Mónica's releases, Still Life, and Storm Before The Calm, are live recordings of uncluttered simplicity which preserve the intimate atmosphere she creates in concert. Her songs are filled with a rich philosophy on family, love, and life - all bathed in Southwest colors and textures with a touch of the Texas/Mexico border.
She brings more than 25 years of experience as writer, performer, on-air talent, and recording artist to her concerts and workshops. Her popular workshops for adolescents to adults explore art as a safe place for feelings, basics of breath and diction, controlling stage fright, copyrighting and stress management through T'ai Chi movement.
Mónica has received four consecutive ASCAP Special Awards in part for the unique prestige value of her performances in a diversity of venues from public radio to church services, from the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas to California's Napa Valley Music Festival. She has also swept first place in El Paso musical performance and poetry slams.
In 1995, Mónica was inducted into the El Paso Women's Hall of Fame for both her impact as a performing songwriter and for her dedication to covering good news and the arts as a television news reporter.
Mónica is among a select group of artists to be listed in the Texas Commission on the Arts Texas Touring Roster http://www.arts.state.tx.us/TCA/catalogs/tourcat/tourcat.htm
